MACHU PICCHU REGULATIONS 2025

The Machu Picchu Citadel is a must see destination for those wanting to check off another place from their bucket list. You shouldnt miss the opportunity to visit this majestic Incan site that has been a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1983. The Peruvian government has issued new regulations as of 01 June 2024, these regualtions are in order to help conserve and maintain this historical site in the most pristine conditions possible.

Time in Machu Picchu

The time designated for you to enter Machu Picchu is selected when you buy your tickets online or if your travel agent buy them for you. Your assigned time is indicated on your ticket. it is a great idea to be at gate at your entry time. We suggest you arrive at the bus stop in Aguas Calientes at least one hour before your entrance time at the Machu Picchu ruins.

  • An entry ticket to Machu Picchu is valid for 2 hours.

The NEW Schedules for Visiting Machu Picchu

With the new regulations from 2024, there are 10 different session times:

  • 1st Session from 6am to 7am
  • 2nd Session from 7am to 8am
  • 3rd Session from 8am to 9am
  • 4th Session from 9am to 10am
  • 5th Session from 10am to 11 am
  • 6th Session from 11am to 12h
  • 7th Session from 12h to 13h
  • 8th Session from 13h to 14h
  • 9th Session from 14h to 15h
  • 10th Session from 15h to 16h.

There are limited numbers of entrance tickets for each session.

Tour Guide Policy

Today every person that enters Machu Picchu needs to be have a guide. Gone are the days when you could roam around Machu. This guide must be licenced. The tour guide must present a valid and up to date identification card upon arriving at this site along with a list of his/her tour group.

With the new regulations for 2019, there are three different session times:

When will the new Regulations start?

The new regulations began on June 1st, 2024

Will I be able to explore all of Machu Picchu in one session?

If I want to visit Machu Picchu Citadel for the second session or a second day, do I need a guide?

New regulations state that you will need a guide on your first day. If you are going to visit on a second day without a guide, you must show proof of your first visit (prior entrance ticket) along with a new entrance ticket.

Am I allowed to spend more time in Machu Picchu?

No, the regulations state that every person that enters Machu Picchu can only spend 2 hours at the site.

Can I climb Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain in the afternoon session?

No you can only enter both Huayna Picchu and Machu Picchu Mountain in the morning.
